JUBILEE COUNCIL
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
- Luke 4v18-19
What is the Jubilee Council?
The Jubilee Council exists to help our church become a place where people of all races, ethnicities and classes belong, are celebrated, and empowered to shape the ethos and direction of Immanuel so that we become a community that reflects the diverse cultural makeup of Atlanta, while speaking to and countering the racial injustices of our city.
To begin these efforts, we created Jubilee Council Task Force in the fall of 2022. This task force met once a month over six months to craft a 3-5 year strategic plan for accomplishing the vision above. To do this, the Task Force unpacked what our values for diversity, biblical justice, and Jubilee mean for every program area of our church life, including Sunday services, kids ministry, education, spiritual formation, outreach, worship and more.
The Jubilee Task Force concluded its work in February of 2023. While we are still working through the immediate next steps from the Strategic Plan, we are excited to share an overview of what’s to come!
