The way we engage in missions here at Immanuel is through partnership. And each month, we are highlighting one of our wonderful partners at Immanuel.
For the month of October, we are excited to share more about our partner, Friends of Refugees. FOR is a post-resettlement community development program based in Clarkston. They mobilize Atlantans to form relationships with families from around the world who have been forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, and violence, and who have been invited to Atlanta to make a home here.
One of the programs of Friends of Refugees, Embrace Refugee Birth Support, is directed by Virginia Tester (who attends Immanuel). Through its culturally diverse staff, Embrace empowers expectant mothers with knowledge of the unique American birth culture and to make informed decisions for themselves and their child. Their staff provides education and support in the home languages of the refugees they serve. For the month of October, we’ll learn more about our partner FOR by engaging with the Embrace program in two ways:
We are doing a supply drive for Embrace, purchasing baby supplies for expecting mothers and buying gifts for baby shower bags. You can purchase those items from their wishlist using the link below…
We are looking for 2 or 3 households at Immanuel to come alongside an expectant mom and her family during their pregnancy, with support from the staff at Embrace. Being a friend means creating mutual relationships, showing and receiving hospitality, and providing some practical assistance. This is roughly a six-month commitment and involves a variety of check-ins, meet ups and meal train help. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering in this way and what it entails, you can sign up for an information session using the link below…
